I had no problem deciding which organization I would love to support when giving back to my community. I have always loved pets and have been fostering for the Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Of Polk County (SPCA of Polk County) for 13 years. Did you know that fostering pets at your local shelter is an excellent way to volunteer. It is important that a pet who has been brought to the shelter or found wandering the streets homeless have a stress-free place to stay from the time they enter the shelter until the time they finally find their furever family. A foster is the crucial piece of the puzzle in supplying a safe, stress-free environment, while at the same time giving the pet daily attention, love and training thus making the transition from the shelter to their new furever families easier for pet and adopter. Fostering for your local shelter also reduces overcrowding in the shelter.
I also photograph the pets for the SPCA of Polk County which are used on their website. Photos of shelter pets can make a big difference and increase their chances of being adopted. Many times, pets' intake photos do not truly reflect their personality. The pets when first are brought to the shelter will be stressed by the new environment, strange people and barking dogs. By taking quality photos and being able to showcase the pets' pure personality through the camera, we increase the chances for adoption and can change their lives for the better! Not everyone can foster, but there are so many other ways to help the SPCA of Polk County, such as helping in the office or just showing up a few times a week to walk and socialize with the pets. Donating is also a helpful way to help the SPCA by purchasing items on their wish lists. I will share a link for the SPCA of Polk County's Donation page on their website.
Since 1978, The SPCA of Polk County, a nonprofit (501c3) NO KILL animal welfare society prides itself on providing quality care to pets in need and great service to the community such as their low cost spay/neuter program. The SPCA of Polk County in Livingston, Texas is not funded by any federal, state or local government agency and solely relies on compassionate friends in the community to continue its life-saving work. "IT TAKES A VILLAGE!"
